	The Lost Stories audio dramas

The reasons for planned stories being scrapped are many and varied — due to budgetary issues (i.e. when the script proved too ambitious for Doctor Who’s meagre broadcast budget), or scheduling problems (scripts not being ready in time) or “creative differences” between the writer and script editor, etc. Also, close to an entire season’s worth of planned stories were abandoned when Doctor Who was temporarily cancelled by the BBC in 1985, and again when the classic series was finally “rested” in 1990.

Following the success of the initial run of lost Sixth Doctor stories in 2009-2010, Big Finish made The Lost Stories an integral part of their Doctor Who release schedule for a time, using an array of unproduced scripts which covered all the classic series Doctors, before the range came to an end in 2013. (The range was subsequently revived in 2019)
