This is a brilliant release, very well-balanced, full of brilliant episodes from the first two Doctors.
The set is worth owning for the brilliant 'Day of Armageddon', part 2 of the Daleks' Master Plan, although it's a shame that the other two episodes from that serial on this release certainly don't live up to it.
Another little gem I discovered is 'The Final Test', the 4th and (as the name suggests) final part of 'The Celestial Toymaker', which really is much better than many people say it is.
The Patrick Troughton discs have generally weaker stories, although there are a few beauties, such as 'The Web of Fear' episode 1.
Overall, a brilliant release and great value for money.

but flawed. To our modern eyes this looks very silly but when it was made it was a brave attempt to pull it off. Some people will hate this but I really love it.

Another underrated McCoy classic. A story that really benefits from being on DVD. The new full length version really does justice to the story & is the better version.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. One of the best DVDs released. The missing episodes are brilliantly animated & brought back to life in this, the best, Troughton story.

OK, let's get the formalities out of the way - I am a huge fan of Colin Baker's portrayal of the sixth doctor, even on TV, and I love the relationship that has been forged in the Big Finish series between his doctor and the wonderful Evelyn Smythe (Maggie Stables). That this story acts as such a major turning point in said relationship just reinforces in my mind the superiority of this play over so many others in the Big Finish range.
This is not a story about aliens or universal conquest, or even - despite the title - about war. It is a story of the people behind the scenes, those who are responsible for delivering their people from the grim clutches of war, and the sacrifices they may have to make in the process.
The story has been described as 'Doctor Who meets Romeo and Juliet' - and that's exactly what it is, and Sutton has taken Shakespeare's iconic masterpiece and given it a great modern twist. The characters are believable and sympathetic, their relationships heartfelt, genuine and ultimately tragic.
The cast are on top form here, particularly (as always) Baker and Stables, and of course the hypnotic Gabriel Woolf as Rossiter, who simply steals every scene in which he appears. The chemistry between Woolf and Stables throughout the play is an absolute joy to behold.
The cherry on the icing on the cake, though, is the ending - described by some as a 'cop-out', I can think of no better way to bring to a close not only this wonderful story, but also the tension between the Doctor and Evelyn which has been quietly brewing since Doctor Who and the Pirates.
This is a fascinating, gripping and ultimately very moving tale of love, loss and political intrigue, and as such ranks among my all time favourite stories - as remarked by an earlier reviewer, what a shame this story could not have been made for TV - it would have been awesome!

This book is amazing! The lack of books and audios makes no difference to the sheer brilliance and depth of this book. Even now, after having it for 1 1/2 years, still find out new things I didn't know.
Great.

From the reviews I had read, I was almost completely put off buying this release, but I took a chance, and spent £x on it to find out... it's pretty good, actually! Sure, the first two or so episodes are boring and slow-moving, and they could easily have been condensed into one, the remaining few are brilliant, especially the surprising ending to episode 4, when we see the Sontarans! The DVD is worth buying just for that. It has a variety of decent extras, although the prank 'The Elusive David Agnew' featurette leaves a lot to be desired. So, to sum up, a good release that is definitely worth buying. Steer clear of the aforementioned documentary, though!

What a great story, the three doctors really is. Twas a shame that William Heartnell could not appear fully but still was memorable. I love the quirkiness and the absurd. What were those jelly creatures and Omega was an awsome creation and one that returned tyhroughout the series.

This would sell like hot cakes if it was re-released with more and better extras, as the story is great (by Doctor Who script maestro Robert Holmes) and the new characters gel brilliantly. The brilliant alien menace just adds to the brilliance!

The stories are all brilliant (in my opnion, the Sontarans are the most consistent monsters as they have no bad stories), but the actual reason for the boxset is shrouded in mystery. Whereas with the Master boxset the stories were new and unreleased, the Bred for War stories have already been released. This is basically just a gimmick for the sake of the Sontarans returning to our screens in 2008.

Stunning performances by the whole class, together with a brilliant script, make this one of Doctor Who's all-time greats. It is also very inventive in the way that there are no aliens: merely primordial creatures created by the natural world. Very well done.

Definitely the best McCoy story, Remembrance of the Daleks has to also be one of the better Dalek stories as well, superior to those such as The Chase and Destiny of the Daleks. A nice touch, also, with the whole story being set in and around Coal Hill School.
Had this as a akid and loved it! Cost me 99p if i recall. It fell apart many years ago, but was full of great b/w photos of top monsters from the first 4 doctors.
This Doctor Who book is ok. The language is a bit simple at points. And in oppinion its too short. But its still worth reading. (It wont take you long)

The only thing that stops this story from being a totally brilliant one is the score. And I thought Delta and The bannermen was bad, but not as irritating and distracting as the score is on this otherwise very well written and extremely enjoyable play. The thing is, if its gonna be a Haunting tale, you dont want rubbish scores do you? You want creepy old scores like those of old from the Web Of Fear or something like that. The music totally destroys any sense of real scares. If you can try to get past the music, there is still an excellent story behind it. A well crafted story in the usual Jonathan Morris style, with very fine performances from all those involved.
There are some good characters again, and some nasty deaths, but overall this is just a focus on one man. A good presentation here, a realistic sound score too, so as you can see only the blasted music stopes this from being a big winner. Maybe the guys at big finish could do a remix of the track of this one, if its at all possible. Doctor who scores arent supposed to be cute, their supposed to be creepy. Bring back Dudley Simpson!
