actually quite good. campness is kept to a minimum, and most of the story actually makes sense (excluding the end bit with the ghosts). Features walking cities and very predictible citizens.

After the two Yeti stories, this is the missing adventure I regret not having seen the most. It is an excellent classic Doctor Who story, with great elements of terror and excitement. The conclusion's rather weak, but it is quite.. um.. original.

A bit long-winded, but nonetheless quite entertaining, this missing adventure is a joy to listen to. It really should've originally been written as, say, an 8-episode story, though, and I'm really not a fan of the "Feast of Steven" Christmas episode. It's still nice to have William Hartnell wish me a Merry Christmas, though...

Having never seen these two stories (they were destroyed before I started watching Doctor Who), I was very curious about these and other missing adventures. After buying this compilation, I have a new life goal; to get all the missing adventures! Simply put; these two stories rock!

Not very good. Not everything is explained, leaving a tangled mess of a book. seems a bit disjointed. not at all ace.
One of the contenders for the worst made and produced episode ever. Everything is so tacky and badly constructed. Yet it is strangely watchable - I don't know why.

Unbelievably random. The campness (and buoyancy) is kept at a suitable minimum. Randomly mentions the Nobel prize.

Very well written, with plenty of horror and good Doctor moments, such as when he shows hazel the stars from her roof.
One of the most readable and enjoyable Who books yet.

 | One of the great novelizations from |
|
 | | |
A terrific novelization by Terrance Dicks. Maybe I am slightly biased, but because only one episode survives and the "loose cannon" reconstruction is forthcoming, I just love this story. Why is this a great story in my opinion? Dicks' captures the feeling and mood of this era so well. In addition, Dicks keeps the action level high. Every page was a pleasure, and I was sad that the book came to an end. In addition, the drawings included help the reader feel like he is witnessing the story.
The early Dicks' novelizations are well respected by fans because they were not just words copied from the script. Dicks' elaborated and refined the author's ideas. This is the case with the Abominable Snowman. A true glimpse into the past history of a great show, with Dicks' at the top of his game.
Treat yourself, pick up this story and relive a by-gone era of characterization and exposition. Take that Russell T. Davies.

This is the most enjoyable Throughton story I've ever seen (although I haven't seen seen the "missing" stories, I do have most of the audios). Every time I watch this gem, it gets better and better. The scene where the Cyberman goes insane is one of my all-time favorite moments!

Only second to "The Invasion", this is my favorite Throughton story. Creepy, with great filming innovation and enjoyable characters, this story is a great treasure that should be in every Whovians' collection. Who can forget Toberman's performance?

I totally agree with the last review. I consider this story to be one of the best of the early Doctor Who. The depth and imagination that were put into the plot and the relation between the different creatures are quite astonishing, for Doctor Who.

I can't carelessly bash this one, since the regular cast did a great job. I just can't stand the whole Master/Kalid deal. Why not just have the Master be revealed as the villain? He has no reason to hide his identity.

I've tried to love all that is Doctor Who and, in this case, I just can't fulfil my vow. I can get over the horrible Wild West American imitations or the empty plot, but that song... Why would they continue stabbing us in the ear with that stupid "Last chance saloon" diddy after what seems like each and ever scene? Seriously?!?

Alright, it isn't an "Inferno" or a "Seeds of Doom", but it remains, for me, one of the stories I remember most fondly from childhood. What child didn't cringe before the towering Nimon, bad costume or not!

 | The Doctor is back...for 13 episodes |
|
 | | |
I will begin with a short synopsis of each episode before reviewing the series as a whole, along with the boxset's extras.
ROSE
Shop girl Rose Tyler is saved from shop window dummies that have come to life by an alien traveller with a Northern accent - the Doctor.
Faced with the decision of staying on Earth and living out her humdrum life, or seeing the universe, Rose joins the Doctor.
THE END OF THE WORLD
The Doctor takes Rose to the the year Five Billion, where delegates are gathering to watch the Earth die...
THE UNQUIET DEAD
In 1869, the dead are walking and an alien race made of gas are on the loose, the Doctor and Rose investigate with a curious Charles Dickens in tow.
ALIENS OF LONDON
While the Doctor seriously messes up his dates, farting aliens begin to take over the British Government.
WORLD WAR THREE
Rose, the Doctor, and Harriet Jones (MP for Flydale North) are trapped in Downing Street and the only way to stop the Slitheen family is to aim a missile at themselves...
DALEK
The Doctor comes face to face with a Dalek, which goes on a killing rampage...
THE LONG GAME
The time/space travellers, accompanied by quite rubbish companion Adam go to space station Satellite Five where the earth's news broadcasts are being manipulated by a lump of meat in the ceiling with a ridiculously long name.
FATHER'S DAY
Rose prevents her dad from dying in a car accident therefore condemning hummanity to death by the savage Reapers...
THE EMPTY CHILD
The Doctor searches for a crashed ship while Rose dances with conman Captain Jack on the roof of his spaceship tethered up to Big Ben.
THE DOCTOR DANCES
As the gas masked people draw near, the doctor's going to need more than his dancing skills to save the world...
BOOM TOWN
Margaret Blaine (alien last seen being blown up in Downing Street) attempts to destroy Cardiff in a nuclear explosion in order to ride the shockwave out of the galaxy on a pan-dimensional surfboard.
BAD WOLF
The Doctor's in the Big Brother house, Rose plays The Weakest Link, and Captain Jack gets a makeover.
THE PARTING OF THE WAYS
While the Doctor sends rose home, Jack and a handful of people prepare to battle the Daleks.
The CGI and design work is always fantastic, as are the actors, with special mention to Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper...and of course - Russel T Davies for bringing back the greatest show ever.
BEST EP: The Parting of the Ways
WORST EP: The Long Game
BEST BIT: The Doctor's hologram goodbye to Rose
EXTRAS: the commentaries and featurettes are entertaining, but thee is a distinct lack of extras. The BBC BREAKFAST interview with Chris Eccleston is worth a look however, especially when he is asked about how long he will be playing the role.
