Note:  In the US and Australia, these two stories were released separately: Planet of the Daleks and Revelation of the Daleks. The “contractual edits” referred to on the Revelation cover blurb relate to music by The Jimi Hendrix Experience in the background of one of the DJ scenes which had to be redubbed with other music for copyright clearance reasons. (For the same reason, a similar redubbing had to be made to the DVD edition.)

PLANET OF THE DALEKS

Injured after a shoot-out between his old nemesis the Master and the Ogrons, slaves to the evil Daleks, the Doctor sends a message to the Time Lords, asking them to pilot his TARDIS and follow the Daleks to their new base. After he slips into a coma, it falls to his assistant Jo Grant to explore the planet where the TARDIS finally materialises.

Not only must the Doctor contend with the Daleks’ new stratagem, but try to stop them unleashing a plague that will exterminate all organic life. When a rescue ship of Thals arrive, they bring with them darker news still — somewhere on Spiridon 12,000 Daleks are waiting to emerge and take what they believe is their rightful place as the Universe’s supreme beings!

This six-part adventure featuring the Dalek Supreme was first broadcast 7 April - 12 May 1973. Although made entirely in colour, Episode Three unfortunately no longer exists in that format and so is presented here in black-and-white.

REVELATION OF THE DALEKS

The TARDIS takes the Doctor and Peri to the planet Necros, where the Doctor plans to visit his old friend Professor Arthur Stengos. But after an encounter with the Great Healer, Stengos is not quite the man the Doctor once knew.

The Great Healer works in the catacombs beneath Tranquil Repose, the galactically-famous final resting place for the dead and the not-quite-yet-dead. In the upper chambers the busy workers prepare the deceased for their final burial, while deep below the Great Healer is using their bodies for a sinister project of his own. For the Great Healer is also known by another name — Davros, creator of the Daleks, who’s using the bodies to build himself a brand new Dalek army.

The Doctor attempts to stop Davros while Stengos’ daughter searches for her missing father and the local DJ uses rock’n’roll music as a defence against the Daleks. Many are searching for Davros, but the evil scientist has a plan that will eradicate all opposition and enable him to lead his Daleks on a new mission of universal conquest...

This stylish adventure with its uniquely dark humour was first broadcast 23 - 30 March 1985.

For contractual reasons certain edits have been made.
