|Obverse Books unofficial novelisations|
The first was a 2016 novelisation of The Christmas Invasion in the style of a 1970s Target book. Published in aid of the Cystic Foundation Trust, the book appeared as a limited print run of just 40 copies, which sold out nearly instantly when promoted by Obverse on Facebook. It was followed later in 2016 by a similar novelisation for The Runaway Bride (titled "The Christmas Bride"), this time in the style of a 1980s Target novelisation — however, that one was produced as a private print run and not offered for public sale, so is not listed on this site.
Then, in 2019 Obverse simultaneously released a further set of 4 unofficial novelisations, all featuring "Dr. Who" as played by Peter Cushing, in aid of Doctor Who author Tommy Donbavand who at the time was battling cancer. The books were all written under the pseudonym "Alan Smithee" — apparently a well-known Who writer who wished to remain anonymous. The first two of these books novelised the 1960s movies Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 A.D, while the other two were written as if two more Cushing movies had been made, which were loosely based on classic Who TV stories such as The Ice Warriors, The Tenth Planet, etc.
A second set of 4 similar "alternate universe" Cushing novelisations followed in 2020, this time written under the "David Agnew" pseudonym and in aid of the NHS.
