Retro Sound Effects, Fake Zygons

When is a Zygon not a Zygon? When it's in The Zygon Who Fell to Earth.

I don't know... to my mind, Zygons just don't go so well with blatant comedy. The only televised Zygon story we have to look back on was one that was a bit gothic horror in character. Terror of the Zygons defined the race, and the Eighth Doctor book, The Bodysnatchers (referenced by the Doctor here in this story?), revisited the murky goth guise. To be fair, The Zygon Who Fell to Earth is not all funny stuff - it definitely has a dark side. But these just don't feel like the Zygons we know at all. (Hmmm - have I used the word "Zygon" enough in this review?)

In spite of that, the sound effects here are almost worth the price of entry alone - they're right out of Tom Baker's story. Groovy and nostalgic... hm.

An 'okay' story.

Zygon, 70s, music - not really - but!

Bringing back old foes, is a good thing but a warrior race, 70s pop bands, shapeshifters, aunties, small hotel. Whilst clever this one looses something because of who the Zygon are and lacks a little belief because of my own image and history of the zygons. But I'm sure this is the point to challange the listener, perhaps other fans felt the same way and that's the point. Still a good listen and lucie really stands out, the doctor seems to play off her very well.

This was my first listern to a big finish adventure, and on the strengh of this, i have bought more.

I am still waiting to see David Tennant or soon Matt Smith battle the zygons,so it was good to see the zygons re-emerge from the depths. Interesting story, well done to all,

More Paul Magrs Kitsch

Paul Magrs loves his retro kitsch. This time, it's the 1980s. Doctor 8 and Lucie Miller find themselves once more bothering Lucie's Aunty Pat, who is none-too-pleased to see them. Pat has marries a Zygon who has decided to keep his human form and be "human." However, his semi-incompetent former underlings want him back so they can do more Zygon stuff. It's moderately amusing, but Magrs strives to hard to make more of it than is actually there.
