| Bio: | English actor and writer, best known for his role as Harry Sullivan, companion to the fourth Doctor during Tom Baker's first season in the role (plus two stories from his second season). His first brush with Doctor Who came when he auditioned for the part of Captain Mike Yates in 1971, and although the role eventually went to Richard Franklin, the production team were sufficiently impressed to cast him on two subsequent occasions: first in the supporting role of Lt. John Andrews in the 1973 story Carnival of Monsters, and then as Harry Sullivan in 1974. After leaving the programme in 1975, he remained involved with Doctor Who for over a decade as a writer: in the late 1970s he collaborated with Tom Baker to write a planned big-screen adaptation of the programme, Doctor Who Meets Scratchman — ultimately the script was never produced or published (although there is a chapter devoted to it in The Nth Doctor). He also penned 10 generally well-received Doctor Who books: 9 TV novelisations and an original spin-off novel Harry Sullivan's War, which was published the month before his untimely death at the age of 42 from complications related to diabetes. | Links: |
