Cover blurb:

  • HOW ARE THE MASTER AND THE DOCTOR CONNECTED?
  • WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE KEY TO TIME?
  • WHAT IS ROMANA’S DARK SECRET?
  • WAS THE FIRST DOCTOR REALLY THE FIRST DOCTOR?
  • WHAT’S THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR’S MOTHER?

The answers to these questions have been shrouded in secrecy — until now.

Over the last twenty years, several different companies have held options to produce a Doctor Who movie — including Green Light Productions, Lumière Films, Amblin Entertainment and BBC Worldwide. Only one reached the screen, but seven came close. Intense speculation surrounds the details of these productions — and the show’s seven-year absence only served to heighten the interest.

Here, for the first time, is an in-depth exploration of the films that almost were, including detailed plot synopses and extracts from the scripts themselves. THE NTH DOCTOR gives a detailed breakdown of each script from the circumstances of its creation to the reasons why it was never made, featuring interviews with writers and exploring the roles and input of the various big names associated with each — men such as Steven Spielberg, Leonard Nimoy, and Philip Segal.

Note:  Appears to be a straight reprint of the first edition, with no additional material — however, Jean-Marc Lofficier’s wife Randy is credited on the cover as co-author, unlike the first edition where Jean-Marc is listed as sole author (although he does thank Randy in the introduction for helping to “write and polish” the book).

Cover blurb:
Over the last three decades, several film production companies have held the rights to make a Doctor Who movie. To this day, intense speculation surrounds the details of these unmade productions. Here, for the first time, is an in-depth exploration of the Doctor Who films that almost were, including detailed synopses and extracts from the scripts themselves, interviews with the writers, behind-the-scenes articles explaining how these productions came to be, why the contemplated films were never shot, and the role played by stars such as Leonard Nimoy and Steven Spielberg.

"The Nth Doctor is a lot of fun — by showing the process of how Doctor Who might have started again, we can get a lot of insight about why it is one of our favorite programs."
—Michael Lee, Minnesota Doctor Who Information List

“I really enjoyed this look at what Doctor Who might have been. The Nth Doctor is a nice addition to the range of non-fiction Who and covers an area about which little was previously known."
—David Howe, Howe’s Who

Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier are award-winning comic-book writers and translators. They wrote several books about TV series and a French Science Fiction Encyclopedia. They have also written scripts for television series such as The Real Ghostbusters and Duck Tales.
